الثريا تطلق خدمة الاتصالات عبر الأقمار الصناعية لقطاع الطيران

دبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، 26 إبريل 2017: أعلنت شركة الثريا للاتصالات المتنقلة عبر الأقمار الصناعية عن إطلاق خدمة Thuraya Aero   لقطاع الطيران والتي توفر الاتصال عبر الأقمار الصناعية وإرسال البيانات بسرعة عالية، بما في ذلك تطبيقات البريد الإلكتروني والإنترنت والمكالمات الصوتية والرسائل النصية من على متن الطائرات الصغيرة والمتوسطة الحجم.

ويمكن الاستفادة من نظام الثريا ايرو Thuraya Aero  من قبل الطائرات ذات الأجنحة الثابتة أو الدوارة ( المروحيات) بالإضافة إلى أي منصات جوية أخرى تنقل البعثات الاستكشافية إلى مناطق تتجاوز خط الأفق المرئي. بحيث تمكن ثريا إيرو Thuraya Aero التطبيقات التي تتطلب الحصول على المعلومات من خلال البث المباشر مثل البحث والإنقاذ (SAR)، والتطبيب عن بعد، والعمليات العسكرية، والمكاتب الافتراضية لرجال الأعمال إضافة إلى مراقبة الحدود. وتتيح قدراتها الفريدة تقديم الخدمات لمجموعة واسعة من قطاعات السوق بما في ذلك القطاع الحكومي والعسكري والإغاثة في حالات الكوارث.

Thuraya Takes off with Inflight Connectivity

Thanks to ESA, aircraft are using satcoms to share realtime information with other aircraft and ground stations to improve flight operations.

The satcom-based Planet service, developed with ESA’s help by the Atmosphere company, was originally intended to provide light aircraft with inflight updates on weather conditions and hazards. It is now used for larger aircraft and rotorcraft to support scientific missions and commercial air transport.

NASA test flights last month used Planet to help demonstrate future technology and procedures aimed at improving air traffic flow into busy airports. Planet was key to improving realtime coordination, communication and data exchange via satellite between aircraft and NASA ground staff.

Major research institutions such as the DLR German Aerospace Center now routinely use the service in their atmospheric research.

This often involves several aircraft flying simultaneously in the same area with multiple instruments taking measurements. Using Planet, aircraft can be better coordinated based on information transmitted in real time to the ground.

The major benefit is being able to access the information gathered during the mission before the aircraft lands.

Measuring icing at high altitude

Similarly, Airbus has used Planet in Asia, Europe and North America to study the formation of ice crystals on aircraft at high altitude. In addition to realtime coordination, Planet delivered colour-enhanced infrared satellite imagery and icing maps in real time to make the icing encounters as productive as possible.

Inmarsat and Honeywell used Planet as part of their GX Aviation World Tour to check their new wifi service for passengers before it is offered through commercial airlines.

“Even though this is a niche market we have secured important customers and are encouraged by the increasing number of enquiries,” noted Jean-Marc Gaubert, CEO at Atmosphere. 

ESA’s Davide Tomassini commented, “We are delighted that Atmosphere’s Planet satcom service has become so established and so valued among their new customers.”

KVH Announces New Connectivity as a Service (CaaS) Offering

AgilePlans by KVH provides global connectivity to commercial fleets with one monthly subscription fee that’s all inclusive with no commitment required

For a single monthly fee, AgilePlans by KVH brings an advanced satellite communications solution onboard without a costly capital expenditure or long-term commitment. The subscription fee is as low as US$499/month for a complete package including hardware, connectivity, installation at select ports, entertainment and training content, and global support. The AgilePlans by KVH subscription model is designed to deliver everything a fleet needs for better communications and improved operational efficiency at sea.

دبى، الامارات العربية المتحدة؛ لوزان، سويسرا، 12 أبريل 2017: أعلنت شركة الثريا للاتصالات، الشركة الرائدة في مجال الاتصالات المتنقلة عبر الأقمار الصناعية عن توقيعها مذكرة تفاهم مع شركة إلس ELSE، وهي شركة سويسرية ناشئة جديدة في مجال الأقمار الصناعية، تمهيداً لإقامة تحالف استراتيجي بين الشركتين. وسوف تسمح الاتفاقية لكلتا الشركتين بالتعاون وتبادل القدرات بينهما في مجالات متعددة بما في ذلك التقنية والتنظيمية والمبيعات والتسويق. ومن منظور تجاري، فإن الاتفاق بين الثريا وإلس ELSE يوسع من محفظة منتجاتهما وخدماتهما ويزيد من سرعة طرحها في الأسواق.

Thuraya forms alliance with Satellite Startup ELSE

Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Lausanne, Switzerland, 12 April 2017: Thuraya Telecommunications Company, a leading mobile satellite service operator and ELSE SA, a Swiss new space startup today announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) paving the way for a strategic alliance between the two organizations. The agreement will allow both companies to collaborate and benefit from each other’s capabilities on multiple fronts including technical, regulatory as well as sales and marketing.

From a commercial perspective, the agreement between Thuraya and ELSE extends their product and service portfolios considerably besides facilitating expedited access to the market.

Thuraya’s Chief Strategy Officer, Jassem Nasser, iterated that “This agreement forms the foundation of an extensive framework and an exciting long term collaboration towards providing a progressive platform for our partners to offer services beyond basic satellite connectivity.  FUTURA, our future plan encompasses three main pillars, one of which is “New Wave” services for M2M and IoT applications. Our alliance with ELSE serves as a building block for the development of this component of FUTURA and further reaffirms our commitment in building value through partnerships.”

The ELSE team has supported more than ten European Space Agency (ESA) missions, seven nanosatellite missions and is building a network of low-earth-orbit (LEO) nanosatellites named Astrocast that will provide cost effective IoT and machine-to-machine services to global enterprises. This mission is also supported by ESA through their ARTES program.

The first satellites are scheduled for launch by 2018, as a demonstration mission, with a plan to have a total of 64 satellites in orbit by 2021. Once fully operational, the constellation will provide remote monitoring, geolocation services, predictive maintenance and intelligent data gathering. The full scope of markets that will benefit from these capabilities will include retail, agriculture, automotive, utilities, maritime; oil and gas among others.

EUMETSAT decommissions Meteosat-7 after almost 20 years of service

The final command was sent at 09:00 UTC, ending the exceptional service record not only of one spacecraft but of the whole Meteosat first generation mission started by ESA in 1977.

During the past four decades, the series of seven successive Meteosat first generation satellites established the foundations for the products and services EUMETSAT delivers today from the geostationary orbit in support of nowcasting of high impact weather and built up an archive of over 36 years of observations, an invaluable asset for climate change monitoring.

The mission also supported large scale international research programmes, in particular the Mesoscale Alpine Programme and the Indian Ocean Experiment (INDOEX) investigating the impacts of natural and anthropogenic aerosols on regional and global climate.

Over the last ten years, Meteosat-7 has been delivering observations of the Indian Ocean from geostationary orbit. This heritage mission has been provided by Meteosat First Generation satellites ever since 1998. After the December-2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, Meteosat-7 became an essential part of the Tsunami warning system, acting as a relay spacecraft for the Tsunami warning buoys that were put in place.

EUMETSAT’s Director-General, Alain Ratier, said: “This last manoeuvre puts a safe end to a foundational programme. Not only did the successful Meteosat first generation mission give birth to EUMETSAT in 1986 and made it a true satellite operator in 1995, but it shaped satellite meteorology in Europe, testing concepts such as rapid scanning of thunderstorms and extraction of wind vector products from the tracking of water vapour patterns across successive images.”

About Meteosat-7

Meteosat-7 (launched on 2 September 1997) was developed under the Meteosat Transition Programme (MTP).

Meteosat-7

 It was designed to fill the gap between the Meteosat Operational Programme (encompassing Meteosat-4 to -6) and the first satellite of the second generation, Meteosat-8 (launched on 28 August 2002).

The satellite provided the prime 0 degrees longitude Full Earth Scan Service as of 3 June 1998 until it was replaced by Meteosat-8 on 16 May 2006. On 11 July 2006, EUMETSAT moved Meteosat-7 to the Indian Ocean, where it provided the so-called Indian Ocean Data Coverage (IODC) Service from 57.5° East from 5 December 2006 until 31 March 2017 to bridge an important observational gap over the region. Meteosat-7 has been replaced by Meteosat-8, the first Meteosat second generation satellite, at 41.5° East, as EUMETSAT’s best effort contribution to a multi-partner Indian Ocean observation system involving also geostationary satellites of India, Russia and China.

The European Union has entrusted EUMETSAT with exploiting the four Sentinel missions of the Copernicus space component dedicated to the monitoring of atmosphere, ocean and climate on its behalf. EUMETSAT will carry out these tasks in cooperation with ESA.

EUMETSAT has established cooperation with operators of Earth Observation satellites from Europe and China, India, Japan, Russia and the United States.

KVH Receives 3.5 Million Order for TACNAV Tactical Navigation Systems

Middletown, RI – April 5, 2017 – KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI), announced today that it has received a $3.5 million order for its TACNAV tactical navigation systems for use by an international military customer. Revenue from this order is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2017 and conclude in 2018.

“KVH’s TACNAV tactical navigation solution provides precision navigation as well as coordination of military vehicles in critical situations,” says Dan Conway, executive vice president of KVH’s inertial navigation group. “The system serves as a crucial resource for navigation and battle management, and as a backup in GPS-denied environments, keeping soldiers safe and out of harm’s way wherever they travel. This new order reaffirms the value of KVH’s TACNAV products for international militaries, and adds to our backlog.”

KVH’s TACNAV military vehicle navigation systems provide unjammable precision navigation, heading, and pointing data for vehicle drivers, crews, and commanders. TACNAV also serves as a heading and position source for situational awareness. The fiber optic gyro-based TACNAV system ordered today is designed to improve dead-reckoning and target-location accuracy.

TACNAV systems are currently in use by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, as well as many allied customers including Canada, Sweden, Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Egypt, Botswana, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Romania, Poland, Turkey, Malaysia, Switzerland, South Korea, Singapore, Brazil, and Italy.
