ARIANESPACE MAINTAINS ROBUST 2009 MISSION PACE WITH ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ARIANE 5 LAUNCH

Arianespace completed its sixth mission of 2009 from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana today, keeping up the busiest calendar year of launch activity for Ariane 5 since its commercial introduction in 1999. The flight orbited a new customer’s satellite, THOR 6 for Telenor Satellite Broadcasting AS, along with SES WORLD SKIES’ NSS-12 – which is the 32nd spacecraft from the SES group of companies that has been entrusted for an Ariane launch.

ARIANE 5 IS AUTHORIZED FOR ITS DUAL-PASSENGER LAUNCH

Arianespace’s sixth heavy-lift Ariane 5 mission of 2009 has been cleared for its October 29 liftoff from the Spaceport in French Guiana. The go-ahead was given following today’s launch readiness review – which validated the status of Ariane 5, the NSS-12 and THOR 6 satellite payloads, the launch infrastructure at Europe’s Spaceport and the network of downrange tracking stations.

ARIANE 5 IS COMPLETE FOR ARIANESPACE’S SIXTH FLIGHT OF 2009

Now fitted with its dual payload ‘stack’ of NSS-12 and THOR 6, Ariane 5 is ready for a final series of preparation milestones in advance of its October 29 liftoff. Final integration activity took place at the Spaceport in French Guiana – to be followed by the launch readiness review on October 27 and Ariane 5’s subsequent rollout to the ELA-3 launch zone the next day.
